a little twist on a classic!
i took a profile picture of my girl and then cut it out to use as a template. (doesnt she have a sweet profile!) then i traced the picture on the scrapbook paper, cut it out, and then glued it on the background. the last step was adding the pink pom-pom necklace. thats it! this craft cost all of about $2!
the girls that came to craft night did their own twist by doing fruit, animals, different paper, etc. it was a fun night!

content decor!
we have been alittle under the weather with all this unheard of cold weather here in florida! so, i have been thinking of how i can display a pretty little reminder of my word for the year! so, this is what i came up with! sweet and simple!
i had everything on hand so this project was free! all you need is a frame, scrapbook paper, scissors, glue and a computer. first i cut the scrapbook paper to fit my frame (which is a 5x7). with my computer i used one of my favorite fonts for the word "content" and a different font for the quote underneath and printed it out. then i used one of my favorite cricut cuts to use as a template to cut out the word and quote. glued it together and thats it!
i like the way it turned out. so simple and classic. a pretty reminder of trying to stay content in 2010!
~Content~
"We learn that it is His power and grace,
once we by faith rely on it,
that brings us contentment in all our circumstances."
~topical bible
what an awesome quote!
enjoy!

old-fashioned sugar cookies!
here is the famous cookbook! this cookbook belongs to my mother. it was given to her when she got married. it is copyrighted in 1963 and is a little tattered and worn but it holds the best and easiest old-fashioned sugar cookie recipe. she has been making these since i can remember. these sugar cookies are my favorite cookies ever! (her jam thumbprint cookies are second!)
the inside of the cookbook has different spices listed in green and blue.
the pictures inside are so vintage. i love it!
these sugar cookies are so versatile! she has made them for baby showers, wedding showers, easter, christmas, valentines day, and my son's first birthday. she has made many shapes, my favorite would be the different animals for noah's "ark" themed birthday. they are so pretty and classic. something even martha would love. one of my sweet bloggy friends suggested i should share the recipe. so, here it is!
*old-fashioned sugar cookies*
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup soft butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
~sift flour with baking powder, soda, salt, and nutmeg; set aside.
~in large bowl of electric mixer, at medium speed, beat butter, sugar, and egg until light and fluffy.
~at low speed, beat in sour cream and vanilla until smooth.
~gradually add flour mixture, beating until well combined.
~with rubber scraper, form dough into a ball. wrap in waxed paper or foil; refrigerate several hours or even overnight.
~divide dough into 4 parts. refrigerate until ready to roll out.
~meanwhile, preheat oven to 375F. lightly grease cookie sheets.
~on well-floured surface, roll dough, one part at a time, 1/4 inch thick.
~then cut with floured cookie cutter.
~bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden.
~remove to wire rack, cool.
*icing*
~melt 1/2 cup butter, add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
~then add 2+ cups of powdered sugar until mixture is dry and chunky.
~then add half and half in sugar until mixture is smooth, creamy, and thick enough to stay on cookie.
(my mom's tip: use your fingertip to ice cookies.)
let me know if you bake these yummies!
enjoy!
