please pray for haiti!

i am feeling so helpless and sad for haiti. the information and pictures are too much to bare. i have to turn it off. but i feel guilty. how blessed am i to be able to just turn it off. those poor people are in so much chaos, destruction, pain, loss, heartbreak. i wish i could turn it off for them. i have been praying for God's healing hands to cover them. i watched the president's speech today and i am so glad that we are not going to just sit and watch. that we are going in to help. thats what everyone should do. that is the right thing to do. i have found a quick list of some of the different non-profit organizations that are collecting donations to send to haiti. please prayerfully consider donating. donating and praying is all we really can do from the safety of our homes. go here to see the list and i would love to hear how you have donated. it will be the only way to put a smile on my face for the haitian people.

a little twist on a classic!

i love the classic silhouette! they are so beautiful! but for one of my monthly craft nights i thought i would change it up a bit! i did this by using chipboard, paint, fun scrapbook paper and some pink pom-poms. first i painted the edges of the chipboard and cut out a piece of scrapbook paper and glued it onto the chipboard. this created the background.

i took a profile picture of my girl and then cut it out to use as a template. (doesnt she have a sweet profile!) then i traced the picture on the scrapbook paper, cut it out, and then glued it on the background. the last step was adding the pink pom-pom necklace. thats it! this craft cost all of about $2!

the girls that came to craft night did their own twist by doing fruit, animals, different paper, etc. it was a fun night!

happy tuesday!

ps. i joined in at make your mondayamd get your craft on! go take a peek at all the craftyness!

content decor!

we have been alittle under the weather with all this unheard of cold weather here in florida! so, i have been thinking of how i can display a pretty little reminder of my word for the year! so, this is what i came up with! sweet and simple!

i had everything on hand so this project was free! all you need is a frame, scrapbook paper, scissors, glue and a computer. first i cut the scrapbook paper to fit my frame (which is a 5x7). with my computer i used one of my favorite fonts for the word "content" and a different font for the quote underneath and printed it out. then i used one of my favorite cricut cuts to use as a template to cut out the word and quote. glued it together and thats it!

i like the way it turned out. so simple and classic. a pretty reminder of trying to stay content in 2010!

"We learn that it is His power and grace,
once we by faith rely on it,
that brings us contentment in all our circumstances."
~topical bible

what an awesome quote!

ps. joining the party over at twice remembered , get your craft on , funky junk interiors and its so very creative!

old-fashioned sugar cookies!

here is the famous cookbook! this cookbook belongs to my mother. it was given to her when she got married. it is copyrighted in 1963 and is a little tattered and worn but it holds the best and easiest old-fashioned sugar cookie recipe. she has been making these since i can remember. these sugar cookies are my favorite cookies ever! (her jam thumbprint cookies are second!)

look at the stained and worn pages.

the inside of the cookbook has different spices listed in green and blue.

the pictures inside are so vintage. i love it!

these sugar cookies are so versatile! she has made them for baby showers, wedding showers, easter, christmas, valentines day, and my son's first birthday. she has made many shapes, my favorite would be the different animals for noah's "ark" themed birthday. they are so pretty and classic. something even martha would love. one of my sweet bloggy friends suggested i should share the recipe. so, here it is!

*old-fashioned sugar cookies*

4 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup soft butter

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup dairy sour cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

~sift flour with baking powder, soda, salt, and nutmeg; set aside.

~in large bowl of electric mixer, at medium speed, beat butter, sugar, and egg until light and fluffy.

~at low speed, beat in sour cream and vanilla until smooth.

~gradually add flour mixture, beating until well combined.

~with rubber scraper, form dough into a ball. wrap in waxed paper or foil; refrigerate several hours or even overnight.

~divide dough into 4 parts. refrigerate until ready to roll out.

~meanwhile, preheat oven to 375F. lightly grease cookie sheets.

~on well-floured surface, roll dough, one part at a time, 1/4 inch thick.

~then cut with floured cookie cutter.

~bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden.

~remove to wire rack, cool.

~melt 1/2 cup butter, add 1 teaspoon vanilla.

~then add 2+ cups of powdered sugar until mixture is dry and chunky.

~then add half and half in sugar until mixture is smooth, creamy, and thick enough to stay on cookie.

(my mom's tip: use your fingertip to ice cookies.)

let me know if you bake these yummies!

ps. i joined in at diy with kimba and get your craft on!

content for 2010!

i have been looking around other blogs and they are posting a word that they would like to live by in 2010. i think this is a wonderful idea! so, i came up with my word for 2010!

i want and need to be more content on many aspects of my life. i want to be content with myself! this will be a little hard for me being that i put alot of pressure on myself. it wont be easy to do by myself! so i wont! i know the Lord wants this for me as much as i want it! so, with putting it out there and putting my faith in the Lord, i will be living more content in 2010!

ps. the beautiful picture was taken by my little sister! she has other wonderful pictures in her shop. stop by and take a look!

what is your word for 2010?
